Doesn’t seem to be much traffic on here lately, I assume everybody’s BMW’s are fault free?? Had a coolant leak from the pump gasket so needed to buy a gasket.., euro car parts would sell me one as long as I bought the pump as well. GSF needed 4 days and £12. Last resort was BMW who only wanted £7 and next day delivery. PITA to do but got there in the end.

It’s been very quiet on here recently. Not sure where the crowd have gone off to play.
I’m amazed that BMW didn’t want to sell you an entire engine just to get a gasket! Nice of them to (finally) be owner friendly….

Sometimes they give the best price but we call them as a last option.
Always worth a phone call if it's only for a laugh at the price they quote.

Morning Guy's
Well done Henry, and no the X5's haven't been behaving but nothing outside what I would call normal wear and tear. The 4.6is only needed a service and a handful of lamps and it went through it's MOT and we were off to Goodwood (but then it's only done 2k since last year
) The E70 I need to change the front Anti Roll Bar bushes only to discover (1) you have to remove under trays and wheel arch liners to get at the mountings (2) Replacements will be Poly Bushes as BMW want to sell a complete Roll Bar assembly? just waiting for them to arrive. It also has developed an annoying air suspension timeout fault that while I am underneath I will check it out. At my age now I am like a tortoise when I am on my back
Mean while my wife's 2005 Subaru Outback went through it's MOT with it's first advisory Rear Fog light not fully lit (LED 4 out of 10 failed) As it is a sealed unit I will need to search for a replacement.

Apart from the rear boot badge top tin cover falling off my e70 has behaved( touches wood) , aircon is now regassed so enjoying that novelty again after it not working all last year . Its my daily again as the elderly passat has started running badly (again) and just about got me home the last run out , still it has 264,000 miles now so its a bit tired and with 4 secondhand injectors it ran for a couple of months, not great still a huge vibration at idle but strangely no fault codes last time I checked but I think one injector is faulty again
Greydog a new anti roll bar because the bushes are shot that is taking the micheal ! even by bmw standards

Do you mean fog light or third brake light.
If brake light unplug it next mot as if not lit at all that is the end of that no advisory.

Nice to see the cars haven’t expired, I thought that this time it was the owners.

Well my 4.4 is still going strong.
Last month I replaced all the rear suspension inc shocks. Then I installed new inner and outer tie rods, anti roll bar drop links, steering column bushes and shaft. Then I set up the alignment with string lines and a camber gauge. Drives absolutely straight now.
New cam sensor and fuel purge valve on the engine as I had codes for those for ages.
It passed the mot in March before I did all that so not bad for 25yr old.
When swapping the purge valve I noticed that the new water pump was leaking which turned out to be where the temp sensor screws in. I nipped it up but it go worse so I took it out to discover that the pump surface was not machined - almost like the casting was a bit small and the cutter missed it. A bit of on site engineering had that sorted.
I use mine every day and being a builder it's always full of gear so I regularly give it a good clean out so it looks fresh as I hate mess. Also, using it every day allows me to completely 'gel' with it so I know if anything doesn't feel right and can sort it immediately.
Last weekend I removed the wiper arms and all the plastic scuttle area and detailed all that as I had a few hours free. Amazing how much gunk gets collected in and around that area.
I'm thinking of refurbing the wheels next - they are style 87 in gun metal grey but I might go back to standard bmw silver as I like things original.

Looks as if my old E53 (2005 3.0D) has been either re-reg’d, sold abroad or gone. No longer visible on any of the checkers after 21 years.

Not much makes it past 20 years now , not worth fixing when something major breaks like the autobox.
