How does the roundel badge come off? It's buggered anyway so i drilled a couple of pilot holes and inserted a couple of self tappers and pulled, and pulled and.....it won't budge.

By chance I know this one ….having the same car helps!
The special tool is no more than a thin plastic wedge. You’ll need a hairdryer to warm stuff up….masking tape on the paint around it might help - or make sure it’s clean so no grit scratches etc.

Oh well at least I don't have to strip internal trim, just get very anxious I don't mark the surrounding paint.
Purchasing a badge itself was a mistake, more wasted monies,, and a dealer visit for the new one = costly.
Appreciate the heads up

Only £43.91 from BMW online. Suppose it saves fuel driving to collect one from the dealership but hardly inexpensive

I changed mine on the X6....heated up old one as said and easied it off....went on the bay and asked seller to just send me the badge not fixed (adhered) to the mount....still had to pay full price....it arrived seperate from the mount as requested, so just pulled off the adhesive protection film and pressed in place

Was looking at the price myself as paint is coming off around one of my lights and would need the badge off to fix properly £42 ouch after having to replace the front one earlier in the year after the centre fell off and 42 quid as well m the front are well on the pins would not budge and just snapped off , ruined the grommets getting the pins out so another 2 quid lol

Removed this earlier today, not the most difficult task but what a faff. The badge on mine is a one piece affair, quite a complex item when you examine how its made. No grommets either, should there be? I noted the right hole is horizontaly elongated too
Short term, masking tape over the holes awaiting the replacement.

Is it still held via being taped on with a double sided adhesive pad though?
I was looking at mine earlier and wondered as mine is on a stand-off chromed widget. Is it just a case of applying gentle heat?

I'm pretty sure this is a one piece item. I'll snap some pics tomorrow, a replacement is ordered anyway so I'll fit it. Ironically I have a gloss black cover ring for the widget/spacer. Why the actual roundel had blistered I don't know. Its now turned into over £60 for a basic badge swap
Heat obviously helps with removal and it came off 50/50 clean, sticky foam residue is always a pita to get off. I used masking tape around the base section, heat and plastic pry tools, which have been invaluable since I bought them a while back now.

Images for reference. This is definitely a one piece item, I tried pushing on the roundel from the rear/ inside through what look like access holes and that only punctured the roundel. Maybe it starts as two pieces but they are fused together in some way?

New badge arrived via postie today, its on now and has finished the look again. I still have a gloss black covering ring but do I fit it to cover a brand new badge?
I noted the new BMW badge has a drain hole area at the bottom. No nylon locator grommets either. Two locating pins on the moulding and it seems the self adhesive tape is no longer enough for a water exclusion fit ?

Well the tin cover on my boot badge came of while cleaning the car , after the front it was only a matter of time ,looks like its held of with a sticker and I actually tried to buy another tailgate yesterday as mine has quite a bit of rust now but it was already sold ! Its probably a pain to swap them out anyway

That’s different! The badges just pull out I think, so replaceable, and changing the tailgate will definitely be a 2-person challenge.

The rear one is stuck in as well as pins so not easy removed as the front but the rust above one of my rear bootlights looks like its come from inside so its going to crumble if i poke it plus rust is bleeding from under the numberplate light area too .
Same thing happening the front badge the tin cover blew off in a storm , this one was just about to fall off too.
I think the guy selling the other broke the glass removing it as it wasnt broke in the pictures , the way it wraps around leaves the glass very vunerable during removal
