Not had one, but this might be of use?

I’ve got a feeling that Raj (not seen for a while) had a 335i that probably had that power unit.
In ‘X’ cars they’re probably rare as most sales were diesel in the UK.

Raj went awol a while ago now which is a shame.
I've stumbled onto an E70 with this motor, lowish miles decent spec and white! A great colour for the advancing possibility of a full-time life in Greece
Got to own a car for a minimum of six months before it can be imported, so relevant to me now. Sure the mpg wont be startling either way but Greece prefers petrol despite deisel is more common.
I wonder whether its a viable N series?

It’s basically the petrol version of the N57 from diesel cars. The N57 is known for timing chain issues but not much else. The Blog I linked to has the gotchas, so as long as it’s properly serviced and has the right oils etc, should be fine. I would also expect it being an ‘N’ series, to have the 8-speed auto fitted. I’ve never seen a manual E70. That should have oil/filter changed every 8 years or 60k miles. Those boxes either fail immediately (as in within a year) or keep going.
