E53 or E70??

Post by Rusty » Tue Mar 29, 2011 7:50 pm
Just checked a Nov 2007 car and that's £245. I will be pushing my budget quite a lot to get into one of these.
Some may remember that I went through this process last year. I ended up buying a 06 e53 which is an 01/06 bd but was registered before the June tax hike, so I only pay £245pa. With the E70, the first non Msport engines were all high emission so high tax, it wasn't until they introduced the 3.0d xdrive version iirc that the engines changed. Please don't quote me on this info. The 7-10k price increase was too steep for financial control in the end and I am extremely happy with my E53
One thing is for sure - the facelift E53 does not look dated to me at all, still happy with it whilst normally I would have long moved on to a newer model.
Absolutely agree pvr, I love the styling of the facelifts - my 4.8is styling still has that look-at-me look about it when I walk away from it and I often look back at it after parking and think what a stylish car it is...... I don't know what I'll do when the time comes for a change as I really really do not like the E70 styling, it looks to me as if it consumed just a few too many steroids...... :D and I just cannot warm to the X6, however much I try.

Really great replies all! I agree the E53 is not at all dated. When I had an E39 I loved it, then the E60 came out and made me feel like I was driving a dated car so I had to change!!
With the x5 I would love the extra seats but will struggle in my price range.

Looking at the numbers I just don't think (after all the comments too!) I want to push it too much. 2nd year warranty, some extra toys on a E39 is prob the way to go!!
I can take the family on a nice holiday with the extra cash too!

Freudian slip! I will always have a soft spot for the old E39 - Awesome car :) But yes, quite right E53 is the way to go!

E53 or E70??

Where in the country are you? Maybe there is a member close to you who could let you have a look around an e53 of similar age etc to the type you are looking for? May help you definitively decide which way to go?

Just a thought.

I spend so much time in the local BMW showrooms people think I work there  Im near dartford in Kent though if there are any locals - Always good to know people who can assist.

Another forum I use has a strong local group and we are often out together!

Bit far from me, but I'm sure others aren't far away.

Good luck with your search.

Well, After a lot of searching and running the numbers I have gone with an E61!!!!!! I love the X5's but right now I cant get the one I would REALLY want so anything else would be second best and I know that would grate on my mind.

Quite sad I will not be an active member on here as I dont have X5 (still a yet, I WILL get one)

Jason will be getting his hands on this and working his magic as soon as I can get it to him!!
