The interior mirror on my X1 is loose, every time I go over a bump it moves. I popped it off to have a look and it looke like a locking ring has come loose and I can't get it back on. There are a couple if wires that come through the ball the mirror clips onto that don't seem to have any purpose, maybe a heating element? I don't want to cut them but can't see any way of disconnecting them to separate the mirror completely from the mounting. Anyone got any ideas how I can do this please?

Which version? There are multiple versions of the mirror mount depending upon options fitted. The wires could be for a rain sensor, automatic high beam, auto-dimming. They all have different mounts. It would help to have a picture from the side to see the shape of the interior mount. I might be able to find something with that.
A note of caution is that it must be done at temperatures of above 18°C and below 28°C, and the screen, mount and mirror base must all be at the same temperature.
