Morning folks
I would appreciate is someone could shed some light on this, tried to look online and didn't come across anything. Went for a long drive somewhere around 5 h to sea-side and back. Once returned home got this noise coming from what seam's to be engine bay once i switch the car off.No light's on dash, drives fine, no power loss.

Something’s not disengaging when you switch off and taking a moment to do so. I couldn’t hear it with the engine running - which sounded normal. I would have said some form of clutch such as the mechanical engine fan (not the electric one). Whatever it is spins after engine off.
See if you can localise it. The acoustic cover on the engine lifts off easily which well let you see more of the items connected to the drive belts.

I did take off the cover and the filter ect,the tick isnt mechanical but sounds more like electric tick if that makes any sense.with all the covers off ect sounds like top of the engine.I booked the car in local garage to have a look at just thought some have come across similar issue

Update.
As weird as it sounds had the issue for 2 day's , on day 3 it just disappeared. Car is the same as it was before how about that

Finding intermittent issues is an absolute pain! We’ve got a 20 year old E46 that keeps losing the near side mirror controls. Nothing shows up on test. It’s £650 to replace (at Indy prices) it so I want to be sure it needs replacing before I commit. It was in yesterday and of course worked perfectly all day!

Ok Update 1.
Wen to shop all around would say 20/ 30 min drive. On Idrive oil level came up as oil level too high until i got to 2nd shop where when i left, came up as oil level too low the ticking/clicking noise is back. Got back home IDrive still said oil level too low ... checked the dipstick oil is right on max or just slightly over.
P.S Last oil change was around 500 miles ago with a new oil level sensor fitted.

Sounds like a bad sensor to start with. You do have to be careful not to overfill though. Correct on the dipstick is in my experience almost a litre too much.
It sounds like something is running because the engine has stopped. No idea beyond that unless you can identify exactly where the noise is coming from.

Update 2
The culprit was throtle body not functioning properly due to carbon build up.
Symptoms
1.Oil level doesnt show the right readings too low or too high
2.Ocasional rattle over speed bumps or pothooles
3.Rough vibration when you start the car or turn off
4.Blower motor's stoped working
5.Electric ticking as per video atached to first post.
Part changed, car runs smooth can tell the difference on response ect.
Hope this helps someone

What on earth was the ticking though? Throttle valve flap ‘flapping’? It’s a new one on me anyway. Quite why that should affect the oil level as well. They aren’t exactly connected really. Oil is oil, air is air.

That's exactly what i thought, all of that made no sense whatsoever. I mean so far (fingers crossed) everything is good, time will tell. If anything changes i'll update the tread.X5Sport wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 5:25 pm What on earth was the ticking though? Throttle valve flap ‘flapping’? It’s a new one on me anyway.
