E70 lci service records

Post by sapphireblack » Thu Feb 20, 2025 9:27 am

Am i correct in thinking lci models have service history stored in the car? Is that accessible to anyone carrying out maintenance to record work done, or only main dealers? Im flirting with the idea of an SE 30d, for no real reason other than practicalities over an X6. My lifestyle was forcibly adjusted last year and the X6-Touareg split is no more. Its marginally cheaper to tax than my X6, but not significantly. Thankfully i like silver with black trim. Is full colour coding the only cosmetic difference to an M Sport model?

Theres a couple of scuffs that will need attention but if its more than a smart repairer can sort i may actually live with it. ( :o i must be getting old to even think that!!)

Should be visible in the idrive under Service Information.

If the work was done by BMW then each entry will have a Dealer code. If done by an Indy with ISTA it will show a dealer code of 00000 from memory. If not done by either (such as a home oil change) it will not show at all. If it’s completely blank then someone has coded the function off. That would worry me a lot. It can only be ‘written to’ the idrive by use of ISTA.

It is also stored in the key, but that I think can only be read by a dealership (and a decent Indy/specialist) and I’m not certain what year it came in. It’s certainly that way on my 2011 X6.

Only coz I complained the dealer hadn’t reset the idrive after the MOT and he did it in the car. He explained the code number bit and said the service hadn’t been done by an ‘official’ dealership. The one I use only services BMW/Mini, is run by a former Master Tech and all of the workshop team are ex-BMW. He pays better :D
