About the Dashboard

Post by Berry_2025 » Sat Dec 28, 2024 7:44 am

Hi guys,
I have some questions about the dashboards. Has anyone bought a good one?

I saw video EBILAEN's dashboard with carplay on youtube.
I also learned from Google that they also have Android radio
Has anyone purchased and installed it? How was the result?
Many thanks if have any recommendations

I think you’re asking about the idrive multimedia unit rather than the dash panel? Not seen any reference to anyone here installing one.

OK. No idea sorry, and I’ve never seen anyone add one on this Forum.

There are some threads where people have added idrive versions made by Xtrons so a search should find you some info.

I think if going for this modification, the nav screen would also have to be updated. If the car has wood trim that would also have to go for a snappy hi-teck look. It could all look pretty good but is going to cost a bit to do it all.

Interested to see the results.

Hi guys
The appearance is good. Everything is going well. The screen is not touch, so when using carplay, I cannot change the destination directly on the screen. I need to operate it on the phone. I can accept that the touch screen may be dangerous during driving.

Pictures say more than words, but the dashboard binnacle would surely never be a touch screen. If you need to use your phone, dangerous and illegal, to operate anything on the new binnacle, it doesn't sound ideal.

My i4 dash is touchscreen only in the section away from the instrument binnacle. That are can only be changed via the buttons in the steering wheel.

The EU is now looking at mandating that real buttons are brought back as many manufacturers are going touch only and it’s being (rightly) seen as dangerous. If you look at the modern Tesla’s for example, everything is on a giant ‘iPad’ in the middle and many functions need multiple actions meaning eyes are off the road for way too long.

OP: Don’t forget to discuss with your insurers. It will almost certainly count as a ‘mod’. They may not care. Not declaring it could invalidate your cover.

Oh, and :worthless:

Yes, I can only select the destination on my phone before starting to drive.

You are right. Touch screens do pose safety risks, especially when multiple operations are required, which can easily distract attention. but I installed a non-touch screen, and I wanted the carPlay system to make navigation more intuitive. and I noticed that the dashboard of this BMW also retains the functions of the original dashboard. The integration of carplay also makes the information display more concentrated, reducing the frequency of looking down at the central control screen. I found out that this is a minor modification and will not affect the car insurance.
