Air suspension sensor issue

Post by euanT » Fri Jan 31, 2025 2:26 pm

My daughters ‘08 was always hard up all the time, so no issue with the bags or pump, so I thought, faulty sensor. Removed them both & one was stuck, so I tried WD40, which free’d it up, but still hard up. I bought an EBay sensor as I couldn’t find an OEM one anywhere, and that has just made things worse! Asked BMW for advice, and they said no sensors fitted to this car!! WTF. Local Stealer said same thing, no listing for sensors.
Can anyone enlighten me as what to do next.
The new sensor will not code BTW.

2008 build, but which version?

Have a look on Realoem. It’s a copy of the BMW parts database that is current to December 2019 (the date when BMW made it dealer only!). Use the last 7 characters of your VIN in the ‘Serial number’ box and it will pull up the correct model. Beware that sometimes parts are not on the most logical section. You might need to think outside the box to locate things. And no one has worked the logic used either.

Sorry E70. Yes I have seen that Realoem page, it’s very confusing to say the least. I tried an Ebay sensor but that has knocked the ride height to pot, one side up, one side down after calibration, and now it’s not recognised. OEM is the way if I can locate one, or just bung in springs!

E70 with which engine variant? 30/35d or petrol. What factory suspension options are fitted? I can only see sensors for adaptive suspension headlight control which may be right. I’m sure a couple of members on the Forum have changed sensors before so there might be something found by using search.

It’s a 3.0d. It has rear air self levelling, and as it has halogen headlights, I presume, no headlight levelling.
I tried the search option, but found no part number. I have found another EBay listing stating the realoem part no 37146853753, so I might give that a try at £19.

Headlight leveling will have a sensor in left front wheelarch with a little connecting rod on it , probably only for xenons though.

Thanks, I will look at the front, but as you say, headlight levelling is usually for zenons.

Air suspension sensor issue

Your car does in fact have ride height sensors on the rear (well mine does) realoem lists 2 off part number 37146853753 self leveling suspension and 1 part number 37146853754 vehicles with Xenon lights

I had to change both sides my compressor kept over running and tripping, changed one which seemed sticky that didnt fix the issue so changed the other side as well. My E70 has 2 sensors on the nearside te front is the Headlight leveling te rear th suspension leveling off side has just the suspension sensor. I have no sensors on the front suspension

Hope this helps
