Windscreen break......aaaarrrrggghhhh!
Windscreen break......aaaarrrrggghhhh!
Just my run of luck lately we have had a small stone chip in the screen for a while now so i knew at some point that it could get worse and need replacing and then yesterday the crack came
Checked my insurance and we are covered for windscreen damage so just have to pay the first £65 and then job done.
Windscreen blokey is coming tomorrow afternoon....... man thats a big screen when you look at it i guess it would cost a two or three hundred £££'s to replace that sucker.
I was thinking of selling the x but at this rate i will have that many new parts i will virtually have a new car

I remember picking my X up a few years ago, got it maybe half a mile from the stealers and the car in front flicked a stone up and cost me a wind screen, hadn't even got it home !!!

Re: Windscreen break......aaaarrrrggghhhh!
If you have auto wipers/lights, make sure they arrive with the right version before they cut the old one out. I had a screen change four years ago and the repairers turned up with a screen with the wrong shaped detector fitting on the screen. Unfortunately the fitters removed the old screen before they spotted it. One of them scraped the lens off the screen and lo and behold the auto lights/wipers stopped working. My insurers paid for BMW to do the job properly @ £700! Car was under warranty at the time and it turned out that if a non-OEM screen was fitted by anyone other than BMW then the paint and interior warranty was invalidated!!
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: Windscreen break......aaaarrrrggghhhh!
Well Autowindscreens came out this afternoon and replaced my front screen.I am more than impressed by a great job done and a very pleasant/helpfull fella that did the fitting aswell
Good point made by x5sport that aswell ....make sure you have the correct glass before instalation. The fitter did thoroughly check as i said that mine was a rain sensor jobby which he also checked worked fine after fitting the glass.
It was strange to see the x with no screen....easy to get at the speakers in the dash mind if you need to upgrade them
which reminds me i must put that tax disc back on now

Now you can sing
"I can see clearly now, the cracks is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that"---------- etc
Did you see the process he use to remove the old windscreen, I am asking this as one day I might have to do my own,
no windscreen cover with my insurance

Yes i pretty much saw the whole process and there were quite a few bits to come off but it looked fairly straight forward, but then he did have all the gear for the job mind and obviously does it day in day out
Given the correct tools and proper sealant i would be confident enough to take this job on however with the screen costing in exess of £300 (if bought new that is )it makes sense to add it to the insurance and pay the £65 or so exess.

It's a relatively straightforward process, as you say if you have the right tools - i.e. a window removal tool, long bladed knife (craft type), cheesewire and the correct primer, adhesive etc. I've replaced quite a few ranging from HGV's to 911's and the key is taking care when cutting the old screen out - it's easy to damage trim or slice through a hidden cable. Putting the new one in is the easy bit (as long as you don't drop it ).
