Hi everyone, my first post on here.
I have had a 2010 X5 30d msport, facelift model with the 7 speed transmission. A great car which drives beautifully and has covered nearly 140,000 miles now.
I recently noticed a noisy cv joint at the rear so decided to get it sorted before the MOT. Didn't go smoothly as after replacing the shaft it kept popping out of the diff. At first I thought it must be something I'd done but after the 3rd time I took it right out and compared closely to the old one. It was about 10-15mm shorter!! The supplier was good and took it back with an exchange for the correct one, however, this was going to take a few days and I need the car for work (self-employed engineer) so I decided to fit the old one back on whilst waiting. Bad idea!!
After driving a while the dash lit up like a Christmas tree with xdrive/abs/dsc/tpm/park brake/4x4 errors. The car was still driving fine though, so I continued on. Once home I had a look and could see that the old drive shaft had not fully tightened through the hub, despite my best efforts with breaker bar and extension tube. The abs sensor and ring were destroyed. So I ordered a new sensor and wheel bearing to go with the driveshaft.
Once fitted most of the errors cleared, but driving stability and 4x4 errors persist.
The car drives perfectly and has passed its MOT, but it clearly needs sorting.
Car scanner shows the following transmission/DSC error codes: CF32, SF3A, CF80, 5223.
Can anyone shed light on these errors and what typically would cause them, given the recent events?
Would a transmission service be likely to resolve this? Any help greatly appreciated!!!

End of transmission service life reached is 5223 and CF80 is service gearbox as for the others their probably related to a box service.

I think that you mean the 8 speed as I’ve never heard of a 7-speed in an X5. Happy to be educated though.

ZF recommend a transmission service every 8 years or 50k miles. Had my X6 one done a couple of years ago (with the proper kit) and it made a huge difference. Box feels like new again. I had a full fluids change incl diffs and tfr box.

Not easy to get it done by any ‘official’ dealers but a good BMW Indy can sort it. Around £1k. You must change the filter and housing and all the bolts (comes in the kit). If anyone offers just to change the fluids then go elsewhere.

cf80 5223 relate to transfer case oil needs changed I believe , I had that on mine not sure what codes were now but was driving fine and hasn't caused any issues many 1000's miles later was found by chance checking codes for something else, yours is maybe the same as I think they might be mileage based .
Reading your post things were fine till the abs senor and wheel bearing were changed ,which side was it ? i think the left does the speedo on bmw's as well , If it was the left is the reading speedo ok now ?
dsc , 4x4 etc and all linked and depend on a good signal from the abs sensors , if you could view the live data for that sensor it would rule it in or out if the signal is intermittent . There have been cases in the past cheap abs sensors have not gave a good signal ,i'm not sure if this was the case on the e70 though certainly affected earlier cars .
I'm amazed you got the hub nut off to start with mine looks like it lived under the sea all its life and definitely would not unscrew and will need drilling and cutting to remove :rofl:

Thanks for the replies, yes I am sure 8 speed is correct, just showing my ignorance X5Sport!
I did have to drill the nut off Leslie, and it was a lot of effort to get the original shaft out of the hub, guess that’s why it wouldn’t go back in properly. The new one just slid straight in no problem.
It was the rear right (drivers side) and everything is perfect on the car except for a Driving Stability Restricted message on the screen, a 4x4! Warning on the dash between the clocks and the traction control warning is on. To drive it is completely normal.
I had wondered if some kind of reset or recalibration of the DSC might be needed, but from what you say I think I will do a complete transmission service, including the transfer case & diff’s. Seems like this would be a good idea anyway, given the mileage.
