PDC dead error code 18

Post by Nick73 » Wed Sep 02, 2015 5:53 pm

Hi all, after the X wasn't used for a little while, when I got back in the PDC wasn't working.

I don't think its a sensor, as there is no warning beep when activated and no flashing green light.  In fact the interior green light is solid as normal, its just there are no noises when near a wall (front or back).  Crawling round on all fours and I can't hear clicking from any of the sensors.

Finally plugged the BMW scanner in to get an error code 18 "voltage converter general" which isn't clearable.

Just want to check before I take the plunge, this is looking like broken a PDC module..yes?

cheers all

Have you tried listening closely to each sensor front and rear? They should ‘click’ when active. The error code is also shown with faulty sensors. Any not clicking are faulty. It’s a fairly common fault - or was back then.

Thanks,
I'll have a "look" at that.
I have a scan tool an all sensors read 255.

Car in reverse without the engine running and get your ear to the sensors tick tick tick is what you should hear.

Problem solved, thanks.

I had no "clicking" anyware, no beep in the car but the LED in the PDC button was solid green. On the scantool I got error 18 on the PDC module.
When I disconnected the plug going to the front sensors on the PDCmodule I got "Clicking" on the rear sensors.

I disconnected the front sensors one by one, when I disconnected the right front sensor I got "clicking" at the rear.

That sensor must have shorted the power to the other sensors....

I replaced it and now its working again.

Thanks
Pelle
