Any advise of oil grade for high mileage M57 engine?
180K mileage, fumes coming from oil fill cap when removed. Tired engine.

You might consider a 15W40 instead or a 5W40? If your car has a DPF then thicker oils that don’t meet a BMW spec might cause issues with it.
Are you using oil? Fumes in the crankcase could well be from the EGR system rather than anything getting burnt. What state is your vortex oil breather/separator in?

Id be surprised if the rings were worn at that mileage

I'd be looking at the vortex breather thing first.

Is that the one on the top of the engine, under the acoustic cover? If so was changed out a couple of months ago..
