Firstly
Secondly - was the mechanic a BMW specialist or a main dealer?
Precisely what warning lights are/were on? There are a lot so we need to know exactly which ones. What about the text display in the centre of the instrument cluster - any messages?
Have you had the car error scanned? If so what came up? Without an error code scan you could be chasing ghosts. If this all happened after major engine work, I would go with the electrics being damaged or not connected back up properly.

If your battery went flat and then recharged the vehicle will have a multitude of faults stored because of the flat battery which will need cleared before you will have any idea of what the problem is. If these faults happened immediately after the garage work I would be looking at the garage to fix this. If your paying for diagnostics then I suggest you buy a handheld diagnostics tool it will save money in the long run. I had a similar problem some years ago caused by the alternator over charging luckily I had a voltage gauge fitted which showed over 16v. I considered myself lucky I didn’t fry the wiring or an ECU. So check voltage with engine running. Keep us posted. Good luck.
