Coolant issue

Post by Olliefrom83 » Tue Jul 25, 2023 7:03 pm

Evening

Saturday, driving car and get coolant level too low warning, pull up and have steam sound and water dripping under car, let car cool and check expansion tank, took about 3 litres of water to fill up, get car home and same issue.

Long story short, after taking most of front of car apart I have found hole in rad (electric fan didn’t seem to be in lug properly and was resting against rad right where hole seems to be) have removed rad etc. but my question is when I refill the system where do I bleed from? I can’t seem to see any bleed screws at all.
Also can anyone recommend a decent rad? Are nissen rads any good?

Cheers

Normally there is one at the header/expansion tank.

I couldn't see any on my 35d either ,if you leave the expansion cap off while it warms at idle and squeeze a hose to get the air out it will sort itself out usually

Thanks guys, will try these out, can’t seem to see a bleed screw anywhere. Probably find out it’s a diagnostic plug that is required.
Has anyone used a different coolant or stick with bmw coolant?
I only had my changed end of last year in bmw, I noticed it is green in colour which I think is the HT-12 variant, but as the e70 takes about 12ltrs of coolant wondered if there could be a alternative like comma or something.

Cheers Alan

I have ordered some to collect later. Hopefully no other issues arise.
