Hi all
I recently had my X5 serviced at my indy and was told that the inside edges of both rear tyres - Pirelli Scorpion - were wearing excessively, the nearside moreso. The rest of the tread is 3-4 mm.
He said its a trait of the vehicle and no amount of alignment will alter the wear characteristics, which tbh, I find a bit hard to believe.
I am swapping to non run flats today and would welcome any suggestions as to how I can prevent the uneven wear in the future.

It is a ‘trait’ of the vehicle but a 4-wheel alignment check will see if it’s out of kilter. Many come from the factory well off, or hard against one limit and UK roads don’t help much either. Hunter laser alignments are the best choice.
Pretty much every X5 model has some some issue. I had my X6 checked when it started showing signs and it was off. Adjusted and been fine ever since.

Ive had 3 x X5,s, and only on my latest car have i got over the "trait" of the X5...
I got my car aligned at a Hunter equipped garage,,, ******* NOT BMW dealership. ******
You have to dial out most of the -ve camber on the backs, to stop the wear on the inside edges,,,, and reduce the amount of toe in on the fronts to a bare minimum... to stop the outside edges of the fronts from wearing out...
The settings i used are as follows..
Fronts max 0.05 toe in on each side.
Rears camber, as near to -ve1degree as possible. each side. With a toe in of aprox 0.08 each side.
Oh and are the non run flats BMW * marked.? If not,,, and the car develops transfer box issues [ which i hate to say is likely],,, you wont be covered on your warranty, If you have warranty....

If you are swapping to non runflats the pressure need to go up a good but as runflats can support themselves without air , non runflats cannot ,my last fronts only lasted 5k on bmws recommended 32psi on my e70 till the outside edge was completely scrubbed off , the next set ran at 38 psi have now done 15k so far with about 5mm left and even wear

Did you increase pressure to compensate for softer non runflats tyres as if not I suspect wear will be even worse.

No I didn"t. Had a recent "health check" when car was recalled for EGR issue and even wear across the rears was reported.
I will monitor though.
