email in the car ?

Post by acideraser » Wed Mar 23, 2011 3:37 pm

Just come across thsi article:
http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/25/bmw- ... l-reading/

Beginning this autumn 2010, iDrive will be able to connect to BlackBerry phones via Bluetooth and iDrive will be able to display email on its LCD screen.
Does it work already in E70 manufactured after January 2011 with Professional Navigation system?

cheers

Check here:

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/naviga ... intro.html

It only works with certain Blackberry's though, and there's another major change coming from April 2011 which cannot be retrofitted despite BMW's implied messages last year that the Combox (Option 6VC fiited from week 40, 2010) would allow all vehicles with it installed to take advantage of new office functions. Sadly now not true - or so the latest BMW bulletins imply.

Thanks x5Sport, that link is awesome!!!
And it says that email will work with my bberry torch but not iphone. Calendar won't work though with either of them. Not a big deal, but having emails on big screen might be handy. Wonder if it would read email to me ;)
well done bmw, pity cannot be retrofitted but I didn't know about that combobox option so I did not order it anyway

Some guy on another forum in Poland is able to retrofit the internet/office stuff, I think its the combox he does. I've not looked into it myself, looks cool but i'm not in the car that much.

Strangely enough I've just sent him a mail to see if he can help me get option 6NF retro'd as BMW are not playing - though that might just be the dealer playing games. I suspect it is in someone's "too hard" bucket! The guy in Poland is awaiting the new software release due shortly, but there is a nasty rumour - and I stress rumour - that a new type of Combox is needed.

We'll see.
