Air Suspension Pumps

Post by X5-D-Sport » Mon Mar 13, 2023 3:48 pm

Question for the Minions here...

is there an X5 E53 with full front & rear air suspension ?
AND
if Yes, is the Rear Air Suspension pump on my X5 the same pump & valve block set up to a front & rear
axle air suspension vehicle, if one exists as E53 ?

regards to all

I can only tell you, yes, the 4.8is E53 had all round air suspension.

Hello friend, Many thanks for the info.
do you know if they had Twin pump valve sets or one for the whole vehicle...
AND if they were identical ?

Richard will probably know the answer to his one I hope.

Air Suspension Pumps

Post by X5Sport » Mon Mar 13, 2023 5:57 pm

I can only see that the parts list has different numbers. It doesn’t show the actual pump, just the ‘dome’ as a complete assembly.

The air supply control unit is also different. The 4.8is has a separate valve block assembly for 2-axle suspension that isn’t shown for the single-axle self levelling option.

I’m going to hazard a guess that the compressor itself may be more powerful? It has to fill a pressure reservoir/accumulator that feeds the front wheels via this added valveblock.

It just refers to replacing the entire assembly. We know BMW don’t fix, only replace!

Edit - images of the pumps….not sure it’s a huge help. There are some differences between them.
