Read an article in Autocar this morning that said insuring a modern Range Rover in London is now either impossible, or seriously expensive. Even Land Rover have withdrawn their offering. Premiums of more than £11k are not unusual with similar excesses.
So many are being stolen as they are wanted overseas that there’s good money in it so the professional gangs are doing well.
Perhaps better scanning at ports might help. Not enough people I guess, along with large amounts of freight in and out so too easy to sneak a few containers through.
I also saw an article from the US about BMW EVs being stolen with the car transporter. The thieves knew what they were about as all of the trackers were disabled - in the US the telematics double as anti-theft trackers. In that case though, being brand new, the moment they phone home for their OTA software updates they may be able to be ‘stunned’ and immobilised.
