Just picked up a KIA Sportage yesterday to replace my Alpina b3 which had a head on accident (low speed) on the drivers side. Not my cup of tea, if you’ve ever been pulled down the road while sitting on a sponge?? To soft, brakes to sharp and visibility of corners of vehicle difficult. I only got it because I could. It’s going back on Thursday. 10k on it and engine management light came on today.

We looked at a Sorento(?) from them a few years back. It had a Merc engine I think, but that’s all it had going for it. We didn’t buy one. Once you’ve driven a BMW there’s very little to compare.
Shame about the B3 but it looks fixable? Won’t be cheap, but most parts are standard 3-series of that generation aren’t they?

Shame and hope its being fixed buy it back if need be, looks like a bolt on only job One think you can't knock Kia for is their 7 year 100k warranty ,puts Bmw to shame . I do know a guy in work has a Kia and it lost 6th year think it only had around 50k on it but 6 years old fixed without quibble , even the shocks are covered got a set of rears fitted free too

Yes the warranty is a plus point especially when reselling but its a completely different vehicle to drive. To me it’s a vehicle to get from A to B without any joy of driving the journey. I’ve always enjoyed driving even to the point of just going for a drive. I wouldn’t do that in the KIA. One could argue that I’d save petrol and nowadays the planet if that’s your thing.
I look at the damage and your absolutely right it seems a case of bolt on some new bits and paint, the door shuts and bonnet line at the windscreen are still perfect, top crossmember is undamaged. So fingers crossed but insurance prices are supposedly 150% more for repairs.

I agree The Sportage is definitely not one for the enthusiast built for comfort and space for sure but it's a top seller and has a strong following as family car . The E46 should be no problem to get bits for bar a wing which you will have to buy new if you don't want a rusty one Takes a right old hit to close door gaps , I pop in with a guy you pulls cars on a jig most weeks. amazing the sheer volume of cat "s" cars getting fixed now that would have been breakers before, many with closed door gaps and the shell slightly twisted on the opposite side as you can see a crease in the opposite 1/4 panel but used cars are getting scarse now .The price of panels and new bumpers is mad I think he said a kia one was a grand ,the grill in it was huge money too and a headlight 800 quid People asking 5k+ for 10 year old high miles basic enough cars when I was looking at passats as a mile muncher

There’s a Landrover 110 in a local car shop. 62 plate, £46,000!! Funnily enough it hasn’t sold after 6 months. Perhaps I ought to try selling my X6 at more than I paid for it 12 years ago……

Latest update, they are going to repair, they are quite happy for the car to sit at my place while they gather the parts that they see are damaged and then call it forward. Interestingly they looked at the photos of each corner and came to the conclusion it was worth saving especially due to its condition as they looked up similar Alpina cars and their prices. So at the moment things are going well.
