recall - Exhaust gas recirculation

Post by Graeme » Fri Sep 02, 2022 11:33 pm

Greetings all - I had a phone call from my local BMW dealer today telling me there is a recall for my car (F15 X40d 2018) to replace a unit that deals with Exhaust gas circulation. Car is booked in for the job in a couple of weeks time. I'm told it will take a day!

I cannot find much about this on the BMW website so I wonder if anyone can shed light on what it is, what it does, why it needs to be replaced etc etc???

Looking forward to hearing from you...

Graeme

This has been on-going since 2019. There's a thread somewhere on the forum that, IIRC, runs to at least three pages.

recall - Exhaust gas recirculation

The issue is to do with coolant leaking from the EGR cooler then catching fire (glycol anti-freeze will burn!). Another reason why using plastics too close to hot metals are is not wise.

It’s a global issue affecting thousands of BMWs across various models and the affected numbers keeps rising. Some exempted in the past are now in scope as well as a number that have had it done once in the last 3-4 years.

Ive had the initial letter for about a month now but not from the dealer, so waiting for that one, job takes 4hrs, make sure they do have all the parts to undertake the job or your car will be impounded by the dealer :x , its happened loads of times......

I had a letter yesterday (2017 3.0msport), this is the second time, I had it done in September 2020, so it was either not done or not done satisfactory. If they want the car for a day, I want a loan car. In over 25 years of BMW ownership this car has been recalled several times.
