What’s your mpg as my 4.4 did a circa 250mile trip yesterday and it’s showing average 25.8 mpg on the dash - and I didn’t drive like a pensioner either. I don’t think that’s too bad for an old V8.
The only thing I do differently is have the tyre pressures up at 40psi.

I don't recall ever reaching 25mpg on mine, close on motorway miles, but it was a while ago now. For the pleasure of a V8, I'd suffer pretty much any mpg. I don't imagine any X5/6 ownership is about fuel economy though, imo.
BTW, not all pensioners are the same

That sounds pretty good for such a large engine and heavy vehicle. No one really buys vehicles like ours for stellar mpg. I’m getting 33-35 out of the X6 at present, more on a motorway, but that has meant slowing up a bit and doing more reading the road better.
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Haven't driven the X6 since March, I've been in Greece since April. Maybe the '40d' is more fuel efficient, I've not had those mpg figures from a '35d'.
The Touareg I have here plods around at an official max of 50kph, though one newly widened and resurfaced stretch, maybe 2k long is now 60kph, which is utterly pointless.
