Common oil leaks

What are the most common causes for oil leaks on the 3.0 diesel please guys.
I noticed today what dont look fresh a fair bit of oil on the plastic cover on the bottom.
Do these engines suffer with rocker cover gasket like most Bmw or is there other things to look for. mines a 2007 last of the E53 model made

The level sensor in the sump is the only oil leak i have had on mine (2002) in the 5 years i have had it.

I’ve never had a rocker cover oil leak on any BMW I’ve owned (six so far). The only oil leak was on the power steering on my E53 due to a faulty hose (a known issue in 2004).

You can get oil appearing on the covers after an oil change if the filter change resulted in a spill,

Il get it looked at properly. I have had a power steering leak on it also but this looks like.engine oil but il get it checked over anyway just incase.

Oil leaking from rocker cover on e70 is common id imagine the e53 is the same. I definately have the start of an oil leak I think is the rocker cover on my e70 but these are a nightnmare to change as all the injectors need to come out , goodluck with that after 13 years and near 160k

E53 isnt that bad a job to change the rocker cover not sure about the E70.

If it is the level sensor you have to drop the oil so it is best to do that job when doing the oil/filter change.
My e53 3.0d has done 175k and that is the only leak i have had while in my ownership rocker is dry as a bone.

Could be that then mate im going to get it looked at to check. Il get full service done same time then.
