Castrol Edge 5W 30 Synthetic. I think it's the OEM oil. Certainly that's what my Dealer uses.
Or Mobil 1 ESP 5W30. It's on discount at that well known motor factors ending in ...fords. Well they had to get something in we might need....

Edge is available online for oil and filter change at National tyres for under £60 book online for this price. My last one was less than £40 but they must have realised how cheap it was and put it up!!!

I'm down to one green and this morning my Costco voucher booked popped through the mail.
Advertising Edge at £22.08 for 4 litres (valid 21 March- 10 April) which seems pretty cheap - I think I paid around £10 a litre last time from Opie.
The container shown on the add is 5w-40 although need to check in store.
I'll be in either Reading or Croydon next week and will post if available.

So thats 2 x 22 & a filter comes to at least 50 quid plus petrol to get to costco why bother getting dirty for a tenner and then having to dispose of old oil? Think 5w 30 is correct grade anyway. National Tyres makes far more sense?

You are absolutely right on the economics and I looked at it last year. However what put me off was the huge number of negative reviews online -
http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/transport-autom ... e/reviews/
I suspect that they are a bit like Kwik-Fit - franchises with variable quality. If you have a good local, all well and good and , in theory, a filter and oil change should not be too difficult! However I would rather pay a bit more and at least get someone familiar with doing it. Saving money on the oil ( a commodity item) is one thing but risking a cock-up is quite another.

After rebuilding my engine after a blowup, I obviously changed the filter and found that the indy who had carried out the last service had fitted a pattern item. While I am sure this had nothing to do with my engine problems, I am not happy that a genuine BMW bit had not been fitted in such a critical system. While you might save a few pounds in the short term, the bills in the future could be astronomical, and I never knowingly use a pattern filter in any of my 'good' engines. I would assume that Kwik Fit et al wouldnt use BMW bits so I suppose its buyer beware, so in the future I will be doing all my own work. BTW my local council recycling centre has an oil disposal point which is free.
