Another year, another MOT

Post by X5Sport » Wed Oct 27, 2021 7:32 pm

Just had the car put through ‘owner’s torture’ aka the MOT and am glad to say it was another pass :D

Completely green across the board. Only done 1,400 miles in the last year though.

Dealer says it needs a ‘major’ service next year and that would be £740 sir! No wonder people go to Indy’s. I can do the oil, filters and brake fluid myself. Thinking about a full transmission service at some point as well now it’s 11 years old. Low mileage but ZF recommend it at <60k miles or 8 years I think. I did get a quote from a ZF ‘after market support’ dealership in Milton Keynes but they wanted £1,100+VAT which seems a little steep to me. I know transmission oil is expensive (service kit is £300 inc new sump assembly) but the box fluid change takes under an hour and the diffs should be quick too. The transfer box is obstructed by a cross brace,

I’ll see what my Indy can do as it’s a full lift job not one where I crawl around under the car!

Nice when they pass and no advisories.
Mine went through on the 16th with about the same mileage as the op.
3 years running now with no advisories the last one was for a flexi on the rear that was done the next Saturday. (did all pipes)..
She is 20 next February so not bad going i think plenty of life left in the old girl.

Mine is in for MOT, fuel filter and brake fluid next Thursday. Then on Friday I'm planning on doing the oil and the rest of the filters, and swapping onto the winter wheels.

I really must get it booked-in for a transmission service.

MOT today, no issues
Full service minus cabin microfilter, I wasn't going to pay £100+ to replace one that was just 330 miles old. Service cost was £533.99
I had a wander around the showroom as usual and noticed over half the vehicles were pre-owned, no chips for new ones!
Lusted over a 7 series V12 with lots of satin chrome accents. It wasn't priced, I didn't ask.

When I was waiting to get mine back, someone had just bought and paid £93k cash for a £112k X6M. That fuel bill must be awesome. Probably needed a refuel before it got back to Birmingham :D :D

An X6M is firmly on my bucket list, hang the expense. Only pass this way once.

If you can blow 93k cash on a car then you prob don't care too much about the fuel bill :)

Spent a few hours today giving it a wash and cleaning the interior ready for the test. I never like to present my cars to the garage dirty.

We’ve had similar experiences! I think it’s called ‘value add’ but I (and I suspect others here) call it dodgy practice. Our E46 was flagged for bad lower wishbones several years ago. Nothing wrong with them and it has passed at least 5 MOTs since with no mention. That test station has never been revisited (it was a major non-dealer chain) with any of our cars since.

I had an advisory for (can't remember the wording of hand) leaking air brakes and that garage don't do that class with any air brakes.
Pulled them up over it and the reply was "ticked the wrong box" lol.
