On my E53 30d the TC was £250 so not that pricey. That was for OEM new.

Surprised but pleasantly maybe there is quite a bit of work fitting it which bumps the price up ?

It's been taken away today. I was able to reverse off the drive but no forward gears at all.
Let's see what the diagnosis is.

They haven't had a chance to properly diagnose the problem yet but just a thought - I'll have to replace the rear main seal too as that leaks a bit..

Ok. I went yesterday to have a word about my X5.
It is going to be a full refurbishment job at circa £2k. There must have been about 40 cars there with broken transmissions - Range rovers, Maserati, Lamborghini, Evokes, defenders - some of these were on 2017 plates so must be just out of warranty.
I have to say, and I'm biased I suppose, that the X5 actually stood out among all these vehicles. Firstly it was probably the oldest there and second it just looks like a purposeful SUV with fat tyres and quad exhaust.
Ive been frantically searching for a possible alternative but nothing (well not for the same cost of repair) seems to appropriate. In the meantime I bought a Ford Fiesta as a spare.. Unrefined is how I would describe it but its OK.
So, do I get the X5 back on the road or what? I think yes.

I agree that the E53 is still one of the best looking SUV types out there. The pre-Bangle designs are classics and I never got the ‘flame’ design of what came after it. The same person who was part of the E53 design was involved in the Escort Cosworth - though whether or not that’s something to be proud of or not I’m not going to be drawn on. :D

And if the press is to be believed older cars are appreciating in value at present too. :)

Mine is not far of 20 and went through the MOT last Saturday without a problem.
Not even an advisory just the wife saying are you going to sell it no it has a full test.
NO lol.

It's fixed. I'm going to collect it on Monday so I will report back on whether the car drives differently in any way, what the damage was to the transmission and costs.
Anyone want to buy my 05 Ford fiesta for the offsprings first car?

Right then..
Got it back today. Best decision definitely to have it repaired. Super smooth and the vibration that I could feel circa 2k rpm has all but gone. The car feels like a solid piece of marble compared to the Ford fiesta I've been whizzing around in and even the range rover to some extent.
When i started it up the engine felt 'distant' and not like it is in the cabin if you know what I mean. Nice V8 in the background.
Gear shifts are virtually undetectable apart from the rev counter moving.
It's cost me £2160 and there is no way I could get a similar vehicle in same condition for that money.
I also have a 12 month unlimited mile warranty.
Let's hope nothing else expensive breaks..
Highly recommended Herts and Beds transmissions.
Good decision to use them judging by the vehicles on the ramps - range rover, porsche 928, audi r8 v10 - the list goes on..

You’re driving it in a more spirited way ( :P ) and it’s colder so may be using more fuel as the engine takes longer to warm up maybe?
