Changing trim

Post by Colw1 » Mon Aug 30, 2021 9:35 pm

Hi can anyone tell me if it’s possible to change the trim on a m40 the one like a gold colour to a gloss black one. The trim I’m talking about is the front outer trim near the day running lights. I don’t really want to change the whole trim panel as the expense so I would like to clip this trim out and replace. If anyone knows the part no please share and possibly a link to it
Cheers col

Have a look at Realoem (BMW Parts database on line) and use the last 7 of your VIN to pull up the right car.

If it is available it will probably be in the Vehicle Trim section, or possibly under Retrofittings.

Changing trim

The cheapest option is to remove the trim, or have it removed, and take it to a paint shop or possibly have it wrapped. If they're offered by BMW theyll be expensive.

On an E71 BMW offer gloss black grills but not the foglight trim.

I think you’re right. I can’t see any direct replacement on RealOEM either. From what I know of BMW it would likely be the entire assembly rather than just that part as it will come in from a subcontractor prebuilt. The subbie won’t be allowed to sell it themselves.

Item 3 here: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpa ... Id=51_5781 is the gloss black version but it’s the whole thing and is around £120 per side. :(
