Glow plugs?

It is a 12v car so they should be 12v glow plugs. Glow plugs do age and become less efficient and fail.
My old boat will start in any weather as long as I wait till the glow plugs have done their job- about 25 secs ( 40 yr old Mercedes engine). If your diesel car has trouble starting then there is a problem somewhere, glow plugs are on option, then injectors, timing, battery etc.
Lots of videos on Ytube show how to check suspect glow plugs.

If only that was the case. The heater plugs are rated at 7v so as Leslie says, I can only assume voltage is dropped at the controller. Also there is no comparison to modern day diesels to that of old engines as everything is digitally controlled with fault codes to assist in identifying failures. The car has new injectors and both pumps and fuel heater/filter. I will check plug resistances if I ever get a minute off work.

I think they are 5v in my 320d.

Some do seem to be 5v for sure ,

as mentioned before and the 40d doesn't use the same parts as my earlier sd/35d.

A google online doesn't suggest any issues using say Beru controller and bosch plugs apart from keeping the plugs all the one brand as I said before , the fact this seems to be the majority of ones offered anyway would suggest it is fine but the lci models use different parts and possibly different length plugs so correct length is essential.

Had a search around today to see if I could find the fuse but no joy.

Fuse is F02 and is under the bonnet, right side (in front of the passenger seat) below the black scuttle, against the rear firewall, not in the main fuse board. I had to go and look it up. It’s 20A. I didn’t even know there were any fuses in there! A8682 is where the power for the glow plugs comes from.

The A8682 is apparently the fuse carrier for all engine electronics! Who knew ...
