E53 3.0d engine oil
Morning all iv been using 5w30 oil in my 3.0d e53 for the passed 3-4 years. The car is now sitting on 185,000 miles so should I keep to the same oil or maybe a more thicker oil. The car is a non dpf car being a 2004 model.

5W-30 is fine, you can always use 5W-40.

I used to use 5w30 but put 5w40 in mine as i was getting a flickering oil light after coming of the motorway but turned out to be a failing pressure sensor.
Still using the 5w40 as i bought 20L of it but i can't notice any difference at all now at 17?k still sweet and never uses any oil.

Perhaps I can introduce you to the concept of 'planned preventive maintenance' ..... There is a clue in the word 'preventive'

I thing you have misunderstood me.
I'm not saying don't change oil I'm saying changing the grade of oil just because your car has reached a certain mileage as per the thread topic is not needed and will not prevent a failure if its due.
