Is this a record?

Post by Sherwood » Sun Mar 13, 2011 6:19 pm

I have listed my issues with the X5's key fobs in another thread. :(

The Dealer is now trying to fix it under warranty and has now had it for 3 weeks, is this a record!

It's certainly a mickey take.........I very much doubt they have been working on the car for 120hrs & suspect they have it sat up in the car park & maybe doing it as & when. If under BMW warranty I guess it's fine if you have a free courtesy car but not so good if you don't.

I can't imagine even a new part from BMW in Germany taking that long to get there. Is your warranty with BMW or A N Other? There may be an argument between the various parties going on over just what is going to be charged and who pays how much!

I assume the warranty is with BMW as it came with the car when bought from them.
Yes I have got a courtesy car, a BMW 116, and I am getting sick of it.
They phone me every evening, I have had every excuse;
Wrong part
Part faulty
Part coming from Germany
Waiting for BMW Germany to connect to the car via the web
Part does not match the car's wiring loom
I had to smile when they offered to return the X5 to me not fixed! I said I would rather they keep the car and fix it!

I almost hope that there is a reason that I am not aware of, otherwise this smacks of incompetence.

Hmm, I think I agree with tge possible 'incompetence' tagline. BMW will know exactly what parts were fitted simply from the chassis number. Which either means the Dealer Parts Team are messing up, or the Service Team don't actually know what's really broken.

At least they have supplied a car, but I'd be getting a little less enthusiastic about a 116 now too. :(

You could of course 'enquire' of BMW GB as to what is going on..... :poke: :fuelfire:

my other halfs BM1 series went into the dealer at xmas and was there for 3 weeks trying to diagnose a cutting out problem. Idiots still didnt resolve it. Very poor service considering if it was a payable diagnosis it would cost circa £120 per hour!

Are these things supposed to record faults??!!

I got mine from Sytner Oldbury, never had a problem with them , however, the technician I use from there has now started up on his own just down the road so PM me if you want and I'll put you onto him as he's the only one I trust on mine !

PM Sent, cheers.

I wouldn't mind if this was to diagnose the fault but it's not, it's to fix it!

They had it on 5 previous occasions to try to locate it.

They are, but Sir is assuming that the recording system (a) works and (b) has a sensor in the right part of the system to notice a fault condition and (c) the Dealer's 'Technicians' are looking at the right data. :o :x How many of us have been told that no fault has been recorded so there's nothing wrong :headbang: :headbang:

From my experiences with BMW, that does rather tend to be a bit optimistic - call me cynical, but around here diagnosis is not usually right on the first (and frequently not on the fifth either) attempt. Unfortunately this seems to be a common problem with many Dealers for almost all manufacturers now. The cars are simply too complex for the Service Teams to work on.

In the computer world we have a phrase CiCo (pronounced Phsyco) for Cr@p in, Cr@p out!! The programming and fault recording systems are only as good as the Programmer and Systems Designer, and the bean counters sitting on their shoulders of course. :x
