'Best' tyres (X6)

Being a bit of a wheels obsessionist I've just acquired another set of my favourite X6 wheel, type 300 X5/6M.

I don't need to re-boot the car currently but as posted previously, the Continentals fitted last year are wearing quite quickly. Soft and grippy yes, but are destined for a short life. Bridgestones are generally factory fit but they seem hard to me even accepting the runflat status.

As an aside i still have an unused wheel set with Pirelli * winters on them but thoughts have turned again to all weather options, albeit none afaik are runflat. I emailed Vredestein a while ago who confirmed they are happy with their staggered size Quatrac on BMWs fragile transmission. Of course if the tranny had a hissy-fit i doubt they would pick up the bill.

So what to do, fit summer rubber on the new wheel set, Pirelli, Michelin hurt the wallet , Dunlops , Good Year or other? Or be brave and go all season?

I’ve been running Vredestein Ultrac Vorti’s on my X6 for the last 5 years with no problems at all.

Just about ready for a new set and will stick with them if possible, unless they’ve been superseded by the Quatrac, in which case I’ll give them a try.

That’s incredibly useful given I need a set. If they’re prepared to put their stamp of approval then brilliant.

Just can’t get them in the 19” rear size 285/45/R19 (so far at least). Fronts 255/50/R19 are fine but not the rears it seems

I'm interested in those tyre pressures 2.8 bar front and 3 bar rear , a lot more than quoted for runflats !

I think you have to go square, 255 50 19 all round 255 is minimum on a 10" rim but within approved boundaries. That or upsize to 265 widths all round, perfect for 10" rims and maximum on 9".

If BMW dont have a solution to withdrawn tyre sizes they leave it to you, so you have to get creative.

I obtained the exact same disclaimer from Vredestein when I enquired about fitting All Season Quatrac Pro 235/55/17 all round on my elderly e83 X3 3.0d manual.

I also received a veiled non committal nod of approval from a BMW main dealer. So far the Quatrac Pro's are a huge improvement on the Pirelli Scorpion STR (M & S)

Are yours a square set? I dont think there's generally an issue with four identical tyres of any type.

Currently I can get Pirelli Scorpion winter tyres (I’ve used them since 2011 in RFT with ‘*’ for the front and non ‘*’ for the rear. I’ll check again with BMW to see if I can get any kind of more positive steer that a “well........technically........they should all be ‘*’ marked”. Given it’s the same brand, same tyre type and correct size just not the homologated version on one axle there shouldn’t be an issue. IMHO of course.

Yes, 235/55/17 all round so less of a problem I believe.

X5Sport - you are quite correct to be cautious, and as you said, I doubt the tyre manufacturer would back up their disclaimer financially.
