Pan roof repair 2017 F15

Post by stleonard » Tue Sep 22, 2020 10:06 am

Hi All,
I have an issue with my pan roof where the motor makes a noise but the roof doesn't retract. Unfortunately, warranty ran out last year. As I don't want to face a hefty bill for repair can anyone recommend someone independent specialist to look at it in the North West or shall I take it to a local dealer and suck the cost!!! I don't wont to take it to any garage who have no experience and mess it up.
cheers

I can't give you a precise answer, as you specified North West. When I had the aftermarket Webasto fitted in my F25, the Webasto-approved installer told me that they do a lot of repairs on factory-fitted 'roofs. Maybe find-out who your local installer is and give them a bell. IIRC, one of the installers I considered was over that way, somewhere.
October 2012 build X3 30d SE, Bluewater.  Now with Webasto sunroof and paddle-shift   8)

Certainly the E53 was well north of £2.5k ten years ago. Not interested in fixing, only fleecing by fitting an entire new cassette :x

These are all of the instructions available ... https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f15- ... lass-roof/

At what position is it stuck? I know with the E53 if it was stuck with the rear in the vent position you can manually move the mechanism backwards to bring it back down and then use the button to cycle back to there closed position.

Thanks for your response. The roof is closed and will not open. I can hear the mechanism but no movement. Any idea how to manually move in F15?

Unsure with the F15 tbh but I know with the E53 there was a manual way of winding the roof from behind the interior light cover etc. Tbh though yours sounds like the mechanism has broken and hence you can hear the motor but nothing is happening.

There is a reset (but don't think will work for you) where you press the sunroof button and hold it for 30 seconds to get to cycle through the whole system to reset it.

My e70 pano roof gets a bit stuck if I haven't used it much, I just help push it back with the palm of my hand whilst pressing the button and it opens fine.

Just a small point when you say North West you must remember that from a Southerners view the North West ends at Manchester

Hi,
just to provide an update, In the end I had to suck it and succumbed to a BMW dealer. Motor was gone on the visor cover slide, bill was £1200.00. Motor cost £400.00.
Independent garages didn't want to touch it and I didn't have any confidence in giving it to anyone who said yeah I will take a look but never looked at one before.
Moral of the story, don't get a SUV with pan roof. :D :D :D

Ah bugger, but guess that's the issue with the pan roof. Suppose best thing is just don't use it lol
