The opposite. I’ve got them and prefer them. I also use a roof box/bars so they’re kind of key to that capability. They don’t make any noise, are low profile and just practical.
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

I think it's an "eye of the beholder" thing.
Personally, I don't think roof rails suit the GranCoupe-ish styling of the X6 (or the X4, for that matter), but on the Touring-alike X5/X3/X1 they look fine - necessary, even.

I like them personally. I've never used mine other than for holding onto to get to the roof for cleaning lol.

I used to do that until wet hands and footwear allowed me to slip, a painful outcome. I use hop up steps now, old man style

Being 6’ 4” I just clean the roof standing on the ground ...
