Battery

Post by Marcus612 » Wed Sep 16, 2020 6:03 pm

Hi all,

I have a 2005 X5 sport.
This morning when I parked up at work, I managed to leave the lights on.
Returned to car after work and not surprisingly battery was dead.
I’ve jumped it off and driven a fair few miles, but when I switch off the ignition, it’s dead again. Am I missing something?

Many thanks for any help!

It takes a lot to pull the battery up again. Just starting once needs a 20-mile run to recharge it. These beasts use a lot of power just running the systems never mind trying to charge a dead battery. You’ll need a charger and 8 hours really to get it reasonably charged again, 12 for a full charge on a decent charger if 5A or higher. AGM type batteries in particular do not like being allowed to go flat and it will shorten the service life (about 6 years from new).
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Was it totally dead after the run.
Wouldn't expect it to be fully charged but would have thought it should have some charge just enough to start it straight away after turning it off.
I totally agree with the above they do take a lot of power.
