Tyres

Post by Andy Collings » Tue Jul 21, 2020 7:49 pm

Hi,
Any suggestions for rear tyre choice for X5 E70 2007 M Sport with 20" wheels? Don't want to spend a fortune but want something I feel comfortable with, characteristics etc. Any important factors to consider, effect on suspension wheel bearings etc? Thanks in advance.

I’ve got Continental Contact Sport 5 ‘*’ marked RFT on my X6 this time around. I’ve had Dunlop and Bridgestone previously. The Dunlop’s had a very low service life so I went with the Bridgestone Dueller as their replacement. Those lasted about 20k miles (less than 14k for Dunlop). The Conti’s were fitted in November but haven’t had a lot of use this year. The set was under £900 fitted and balanced.

I still have the warranty so OEM approved tyres are required. As with all xdrive cars, use of non-OEM risks transmission damage.

Thank you very much for quick response. The note about transmission damage was the important bit and of course the wear. I had an advisory on MOT about rear tyres close to limits on inner edge, so will look into a pair soonish.
X6 may be the next car! Thanks again.

Did a bit of surfing around different forums etc and decided to go for Accelera Iota ST68 tyres. Car is a 2007 so no warranty issues. Managed to get a set of 4 brand new boots for £312.00, sizes 315 35 20 for rear and 275 40 20 front. Been on car a week now and driven in dry and very wet conditions. No problems so far.
