Hi, I’m going to service my 2011 40d today . Are there any recommendations on the best oil to use ?

Use a good quality full synthetic 5w/30

Shell helex ect seems to be the most available off the shelf

Factory oil is Castrol Edge FST 0w30, but any decent oil meeting ACEA C3 standard, fully synthetic and/or BMW LL04 will do. Helix Ultra ECT C3 Is listed as suitable.

Euro car parts have a discount code HEAT50 running. Don’t fill it to the dipstick mark, use the iDrive or you’ll over fill the engine (as more than a few have found!).

What did you decide?

With Covid I’ve not been to Costco for months but they use to have castrol edge 4 litre for sub £30

That’s where I bought my last lot. Still on discount 3 weeks ago in Stevenage but I didn’t need any.

It doesn't go off i don't think but it does go up lol in price.
I was offered some Quantum vw oil about 7 years ago when i have the v6 Audi and i have just used the last can in May on the e90 320d.

Thanks for that it made me look online as we don't have a store here.
Didn't know they did delivery but i do now.
Just found a 4 pack Castrol EDGE for £79.89 including delivery so that's the oil sorted for both cars next change.(when my daughter text me back with her card details)...
