Well, went to CEF today to get some test lights.

Very impressive ... they gave me a whole collection of different bulbs to try out to see if which ones I would like, no charge, no nothing. They only asked for my phone number and gave me an account form once I was ready to order.

He also gave me a handful of GU10 cables to try to convert my existing fittings, so I am just going around the house at the moment trying them in various locations to see what they look like. The 3000k units / 6w are the clear runners at the moment.

That is what I like to see, customer service

Thats great pvr, CEF are a good company and have always been really helpful whenever I have been. That is where I got the Deluce Twist Lock Light Fittings too so if you decide not to bother with the GU10 conversion cables then you can the whole lot at the same place and probably get a good discount too.

6W should be nice and bright and 3000k is a good temp to have the lights. You can practically run 9 of these bulbs for what it would have cost to run 1 of the old ones! You should see some savings straight away, albeit quite a big front end outlay.

Was not aware they sold those fittings as well as I was just about to order them online. Would rather give them the business.

Must be my persona as he offered a good discount if I bought a load of the bulbs ...

I do need to change all the eye ball fittings as well as the smaller ones where the ring holds the bulb in place as they don't work with the LEDs, some of the other fittings are the ones with the metal ring in front which should be fine with the conversion. He offered the conversion cables free with any bulb I would buy.

The initial batch I will try will be 50, and if I say it quickly it does not sound so bad ...

Can I just ask what sort of price CEF are charging per lamp? I also have an account with them and may be interested should you like the performance.

For GU10 6w bulbs (equivalent to 50w), it was £20 each.

The 3w GW10 are £14

Thanks PVR, you're right, that is a significant initial outlay.

I am struggling to get the right fitting / bulb combo, the 6w version is longer and does not fit in a fixed GU10 fitting.

Dropped you an email on this pvr..

For others looking to change their bulbs for LED, they are a bit longer than the Halogens. You need fittings that arent fixed back. It is difficult to explain / find pictures on the net but I can take some photo's next week and post them up. Alot of fittings aren't fixed back, and if they are they can usually be modified depending on how the bulb is held in the fitting. Some fittings however, can't be modified or have an internal holder which restricts the length of bulb you can put it that it sits flush.

I think I said something about this in my thread about LED Lights.

My fittings have the lamp fixed to the removable front and are connected via a flying lead, so theoretically a longer lamp should fit. Could you give an approx length of led over standard?
Thanx

3w is the same as a halogen one, the 6w is twice the size ... (I will get the exact measurement once I rip it out of the ceiling again :) )

You should have no problems if you have the fittings you desribe!

I'm not sure about PVR's but mine aren't bigger than 65-70mm in length including the pins.
