odd noise when engine is cold

Post by jasonh1 » Tue Mar 17, 2020 12:03 pm

Hi when i start up in the morning there is a swishing noise if you rev up to 1500rpm and over but not on tickover ? it sounds like a belt or pulley.
Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction.
Cheers Jason

If it is only when you rev and not on low tickover then I instantly think about things that speed up with the rev range such as belts or pulleys.

A "swish" though can be interpreted in many ways. Be careful of revving on a cold engine on startup as if you do it immediately there may not be sufficient oil in the turbo's to correctly lubricate. This is also why you shouldn't "floor it" on a cold engine as you are placing untold load through a turbo etc. that is not at peak working condition.

With the bonnet up and someone else on the accelerator, can you hear where in the engine bay the sound is coming from?
