Rear tyres for X3

Post by Ceesums » Thu Apr 30, 2020 9:03 pm

I’m looking for recommendations for rear tyres.
I have an X3 F25 3.0d. My last tyres were Pirelli P Zero runflat and lasted about 15000 miles, they were on the car when I bought it.
I currently have Hankook S1 EVO2 runflat fitted since Feb. I have done 3000 miles and am nearly down to the wear indicators ( emailed Hankook to tell them this and they couldn’t care less, told to send them back so they can investigate)
Tyre size is 275/40/19. What mileage have you been getting out of yours?
I do 90% motorway driving.

Can't help with tyre wear on an X3 as i don't own one, but 3000 miles use on any tyre is surely worthy of a question.

I have a friend with a rally spec Lancia Integrale who gets through tyres at that level, but with turbo boost on max 90% of the time its not surprising. On an X3 it can't be 'right' :o

If the rear tyres are only lasting 3k then the wheels must be out of alignment (see my thread on the E53).
I would get that sorted before worrying about which tyres. I use Prestivo SUV tyres on mine and also on the Range rover. Only around £100 each and they are ok. There is no way I'm paying extra for tyres with a fancy name on the side.

Hi,
The rear alignment was done before the tyres went on, they have worn completely evenly. Just a little too quick.

It would seem these tyres have a super soft compound? Have you Googled to see if others have had the same experience as yourself.

Faulty tyres i would imagine is a rare event and certainly there would reports or knowledge of more than just your two.

If Hankook say return them, will your supplier help you with that? Would they have recorded the mileage on your purchase invoice?

I have googled to see what mileage other people are getting, but no results. These tyres are recommended by Hankook for “SUV’s” so they should last a little longer.
I’m just deciding which tyres to put on and hope the dealer will assist with returning these to Hankook.
Proving mileage isn’t a problem as I use the car for work purposes and have to record all mileage.
I have the receipts both for purchase and fitting. They were bought from Tyreleader and delivered to a local fitting bay.
