Martial law..

Post by Themoog2 » Thu Mar 26, 2020 5:49 am

So. As we are under martial law while the 'authorities' trash the economy and the federal reserve buys every global company under the guise of a 'lethal' virus - what are you doing to your BMW's?
On my old E53 I've got side steps to install along with some wheel spacers. Then I may refurb the wheels in a dark grey.
Service the diffs and possibly have another go at tinting the rear hatch glass. Not having much luck with that as twice now I've got a crease in it that I couldn't remove.. Then a total claybar and polish I think.
I keep eying up 4.6's and so far havnt viewed one but going by other, and newer, 4.4's I've seen I'm more inclined to keep mine as its in far better condition and was a more specced up car when new (apart from tints, but it has blinds). I think I have the original invoice in the history pack and someone paid just over £50k for it in 2001.. Even by todays standards that's pretty lumpy.. Ill look for that today during my busy schedule.

Nothing! I have a 7 year old so I’m playing Primary School Teacher, possibly for the next 6 months :o Also trying to work from home at the same time. Not an easy mix.

The X6 needs a proper clean & polish and the 2-series new tyres (waiting to see if they get delivered to the local fitter and assuming he stays open.) I did do an oil change on the X6 last weekend.

Which is £87,694 in 2020.. A tidy lump I’d say.

I paid just over £53k for my E53 in March 2005 and £64k for the X6 in November 2010. Even our 2-series Gran Tourer was about £46k in July 2018, but that’s on PCP as it is our ‘commuter’ so will go back. Still frightening sums of money.

Last time I looked at an X6 with a similar spec to mine it was nigh on £90k. £30k up in ten years!!

When we sold the X5 back 2011 it went for just £16k

We’ll only ever lease now as I have too few years left until I retire, and neither of us get paid as well as we did when both in the IT Outsourcing game. If the electric car specs and range are better in two years time we’ll likely go down that route, but only if.

There is no way I would pay over £10k for a vehicle. We don’t even do finance. My X5 was only £2.5k 5 years ago so it owes me nothing. Although saying that I did pay £2000 to fix the timing chain guides when they broke...

God knows what my 4.6 cost in 2002 probably more than the 71k I payed for the first house. It’s been washed and polished and now sits looking splendid. I’m busying myself fitting a reverse camera to the Alpina which seems to be taking ages try to do a neat job with the wiring. Got two other jobs lined up as the m3 is sick, has started using to much fuel and idles badly, suspect the o2 sensors as they’re in the 90k bracket. X has developed a vibration at idle but only while in gear at lights. Disappears on moving off??
