Tyre advice needed urgently
Tyre advice needed urgently
Sorry to bring another tyre question up. but I am now in an urgent need of new tyres all round. Last weekend I saw the tread showing through on one of the tyres!. My indecisions has left me with an unsafe car.
On My E53 3.0D I have 255/50 R19 for the fronts and 285/45 R19 for the rears. I have (and always used for the last 12yrs) the * Rated Michelin Diamaris which are now no longer in production.
It also appears that there are no longer any more * Rated tyres or branding in production so the advice to use BMW * rated tyre no longer holds.
After a few online tyre sites searches, the brand and models below are coming up as options :-
Avon Zx7
Michelin Latitude Sports 3
Toyo Proces Sport
Michelin Pilot Sport 4
Kumho Crugen HP91
Nankang Surpax SP-5
My initial thoughts are on the 1st three above. Please what are you guys using at the moment?. Your thoughts and advice highly appreciated
Thanks

Re: Tyre advice needed urgently
Plenty of run flat types at these sizes, but that may not be what you want. I used them with no issue on my E53. It made the ride just a tad harder but that didn’t bother me.
I suppose the shift to RFT/SSR types has finally caught up with other types. BMW advised me to start looking at MOE marked tyres (Mercedes Original - Extended) as BMW are using these as well. I can’t get winter tyres for the staggered X6 set as the size has gone end of life for the rear pair across all usable brands.
I have also used MO marked as well.

Yes I did see a few run flats as well. I have always found the 3.0D sport suspension not particularly a comfortable ride so using run flats will probably just make the ride worse .... which could easily be in my head. Also I am averaging 600 motorway miles weekly so not sure how much drop in mpg that's going to be on the current 30mgp.
Re: Tyre advice needed urgently
Switching to RFT made no difference on the E53 in the year after I fitted the tyres before it was sold.
Mine only had rear-air (not by choice but because I had a tow-bar) but no idea if that would make a difference but I thought I’d mention it.
I think I used Bridgestone Duellers - they came off the X6 as the I used the wheels for the fitting of the winter set and they were delivery mileage only. Having had both Dunlop and Bridgestone on the X6, the latter lasted a lot longer - about 22,000 miles I think. I’m now using Conti’s.

Re: Tyre advice needed urgently
Hi to be able to run the runflats you will need wheels with H2+ on so later wheels for the E53 that fit are BMW X6 E71 but require spigot rings for the front wheels as the X6 run a different set up front to back 74.1 pcd front 72.6 pcd rear , also if it is a sport version you need the M sport 19" alloys , as the offset is different and as I found out the Se wheels catch the rear inner arch so scrub the tyres .
If you find some give me a message & I will tell you if they will fit . Also none staggered wheels would fit et48 front and rear 9 x 19 " .

Re: Tyre advice needed urgently
Forgot to say that the H2+ wheels have an inner bead that the runflats lock into so that they dont come off when punctured or cracked the standard wheels dont have that .
Re: Tyre advice needed urgently
Thanks for the run flat info.
This means that the runflats are not an option then if i have to start trying to sort new wheels as well.

Yes that's the problem, although they are easily sourced I have a set for sale! You are best knowing than spending the money on tyres having an accident then finding out.
I run Vredestein wintrac winter tyres on mine no problem, unfortunately the manufacturers have the tyres at different specs so even the same size can be 70 mm difference in height.

Costco are doing some deals on the michellins at the moment , so will pop in to night to see what they have on offer.
I am leaning towrds the Avon and the michelins. only issue is that their speed rating are not the same as my diamaris

Re: Tyre advice needed urgently
You need V or W because the car’s top speed is above H (130mph) even if you will never use it. V is 149 and W is 168. Z if you can find it it 150+.
The weight rating is the one you can’t go below whatever is on the pressure plate on the B-pillar. You can safely go higher though - say 111 instead of 107.
I couldn’t find the 285/45 tyres 19” in Costco’s lists when I checked
The X6 is fitted with Y rated (186mph) tyres and that’s more than 30mph above what the 40d is capable of! I suppose there is logic for it, but all I can think of is torque delivery might shred the tread?

Re: Tyre advice needed urgently
I went into costco last night they have Michelin latitude sports 3 for both front and rear 111W
All 4 woking out at £560 which include s £100 discount.
I have also checked the website an the 285/45 R19's are there. Search by size rather than by registration and it should show up

Re: Tyre advice needed urgently
unfortunately , costco don't have the correct tyres for the front so I had to buy all 4 elsewhere for £660.
It is slightly quieter than the Diamaris. My main issue is a slight road noise/ feeling of vibration when accelerating from rest, This happens between 10-15mph and quickly disappears

Re: Tyre advice needed urgently
I did away with staggered wheels a long time ago.
Mine has matching rear wheels all round.
30mm spacers on rear, 10mm spacers at front,
& I pulled the strut tops in 20mm each side also, to level the wheel camber to zero.
This has stopped the front outer edge scrub, & the vehicle drives as if its on rails now.
Tyres are 285 x 45 x 19 all round.
