Newbie looking for an E70

Post by OWSTA » Thu Mar 05, 2020 3:36 pm

Hi All :hattip:

Just joined the forum as I'm looking to get myself an E70 but struggling to find many petrol examples around, thought this would be a good place to help me in my search! I currently have a E82 135i that I'm looking to replace, if anyone is interested in a swap or selling a E70 let me know please. (Photo posted of my car that's for sale)

I have kind of set myself on looking for a 2010 or newer (LCI?) model, mainly just for the updated iDrive that I am currently used to. Liking the idea of either the N/A N52 engine or the N55 Turbo engine, same engine that my current car has and love. All I can seem to find is 4.8 N62's though :sos:

I'm sure you all have plenty of advise against what I have said so please feel free to educate me... Am I being silly to not consider a diesel?

TIA

Hello and :hi:

The 30i is indeed a rare model in this market due to it’s operating costs and IMHO less than inspiring driving performance. Most E70s are diesel as the extra economy and available torque just works on this type of vehicle at that engine size. The 30i is just a bit underwhelming when trying to get a 2-tonne car moving, and that meant most sales were diesel.

The big V8 suits the car better on petrol, and the X5M is seriously quick for a large car. You do need to know where your petrol stations are though! :D

The diesels though are very good, especially the twin turbo variant (40d for LCI, 35d for pre-LCI). The M50d is also good if you want that kind of power.

Try one and see what you think. It might convert you, even if the fuel type is being largely unfairly demonised.
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

It is supply and demand and unfortunately I believe the main demand was for Diesels, thereby fewer petrol's about.

The E70 is a heavy car so petrol and can be very "thirsty", look at how you will use it and your reasons for not wanting a Diesel.

The low down torque on the diesel and possibility for remap if desired could change your mind about a petrol.

As I expected to be honest, Did wonder how well a 3.0 petrol would pull a 2 tonne beast like these. My maain reasoning for a petrol is sound and the fact I mainly do short journeys, only diesel i ever owned caused me issues with DPF every few weeks/months.

I'll reconsider the Diesel's as there is such a big market for them I will atleast be able to find one of the exact spec i'm after.

Thanks for the advice fellas.

Could meet you half way mate if you were a keen. Just to add with the remap makes a huge difference in pull through the gears. And good MPG. Win win

Potentially could do that pal. Leave it with me over the weekend, got some viewings on my m otor which I need to shift first. Out of interest what kind of MPG figures did you see before and now after a map?

No probs fella. Before was round about the 30ish mark now I’m over 35 on a decent run. I don’t do many miles partly the reason for selling. To nice a car to sit about the drive. Where are you located out of interest?
