Re: BMW e53 key fob replacement
Got mine is dec, same price as yours. Think it’s standard. You could try via eBay but it’s a real faff.
Re: BMW e53 key fob replacement
Transponder keys such as this are often Dealer only and therefore expensive
You could ask cotswoldbmwmini (main dealer offering member discounts) on here for a price. Send them a PM with your VIN and the key is delivered quickly (often overnight unless it has to come from Munich as many do).
You’ll then need to train the car to accept it. Process is on here too.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: BMW e53 key fob replacement
The key for my E53 now only intermittently unlock the door. sometimes it wont work at all.
So I have been using the 2nd key for the last 5 months. Just wondering if the issue is the built in battery and if this can be changed or do I have to pay silly money to bmw for a new key?

Re: BMW e53 key fob replacement
You can get a new battery fitted, there is a chap on eBay who does them, you just send you key off...you do have to re-program it to the car which is easy.cooa99 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 02, 2020 2:49 pm The key for my E53 now only intermittently unlock the door. sometimes it wont work at all.

Re: BMW e53 key fob replacement
I've seen some videos on YouTube of how to replace the battery but you need to carefully slice the key open and then desolder the old battery and solder in a new one. The key then needs gluing back together and reprogramming to the car.
Re: BMW e53 key fob replacement
I did see the video as well. I doubt the ebay repair service will be any different so maybe worth the punt. Battery is listed on ebay for around £5Edward R-W wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 12:01 pm I've seen some videos on YouTube of how to replace the battery but you need to carefully slice the key open and then desolder the old battery and solder in a new one. Re: BMW e53 key fob replacement
I put a new battery in one of mine after seeing the videos online.
I used a diamond disc on a Dremel very thin and took my time so not to damage the circuit board.
The top part where your key-ring goes through is a deep cut if you know what i am saying as you have to cut through the whole.
Battery change itself is straight forward using a soldering iron then some resin to put it back together.

Thanks,
I am suprised the dremel did not melt the plastic due to the high speed
