Suspension issues

After having to have my up on one ramp overnight to do an oil change, I now have the pain in the arse "suspension inactive". I have the 2 axles adjustable suspension, previously if I had issues with the "suspension inactive, do not exceed 35mph" I could just tweak it a bit with the adjuster button next to the steering wheel

this time though it won't let me use the adjuster. So i thought id have a look at the fuses to see if i could pull one. On inspection on the fuse box in the boot. there is no fuse in slot the suspension or the compressor

surely they would have to be in for it to work in the first place, very confused right now. I've had the car since before Christmas so I've not checked the fuses before

can anyone enlighten me

Have you checked that the little arm on the sensor has not gone round the wrong way when you lowered it back onto it’s wheels, think I’ve read that happening on here before, weird with the fuse situation!

The car wasn't jacked up, it was driven on a ramp on one side, could this still happen to the sensor arm, I just presumed it was when cars were jacked and the wheels were off the ground.

How would I go about finding the sensor arm and trying to put it back in its right position

I think it only happens when you you’re up a proper ramp with all the wheels dangling at the full extent of their travel, from what you’ve said it’s likely it’s just a coincidence.

Make sure you’re battery is in good shape, if it’s old change it’s- if it’s not had a proper charge for a while stick it on a smart charger, often a bit of low voltage brings up suspension error amongst other things, sometimes you can give it a good charge and iit all goes away

No that is odd, I was hoping someone else might pipe up with some ideas, other than putting one in and seeing what happens! Can’t see how it went up and down before with no fuses in, are you sure it actually raised and lowered when you flicked the switch or did it somehow just make the warning go away

car definitely went up and down, but temperamental , you had to keep your finger on which direction you wanted it. it just put this down to a dodgy switch

i have put fuses in the relevent places but it still nothing, fuses are not even blowing

very strange. im gonna check the glove box fuse board in the morning

I am unsure of what model or year your car is but I had issues with the rear suspension, mine is an e70 40d. It was scanning a fault with the near side rear sensor and sometimes the nsr airbag would empty completely. The dash warning was also showing for inactive suspension.

I replaced the sensor twice,but the fault remained. After closely examining the wiring leading to the sensor plug I noticed the black shrouding tape was scuffed slightly. After removing the tape in this area I saw that one of the wires had broken.

I had been under the car several times trying to fix this issue and it was only tonight I noticed the damage to the wiring so it wasn't at all obvious.

Yes it really can be the slightest thing that upsets it all, double check your fuse numbers and locations just to be sure, there’s plenty of folk on here that have fixed such things in the past

I checked the glove box fuse number 57, that's in there and doesn't seem blown, have swapped it for a 15amp as it was a 10. Still not doing anything.

I'm now gonna try disconnecting the battery for a while

The best thing you could do is buy a decent scanner/code reader, two visits to a dealer for a scan will cost more than a scanner. Get one that shows live data, you’ll be able to see the voltage readings to the sensors. On the down side it will probably show you half a dozen faults you didn’t even know you had

disconnected the battery all afternoon today, still no joy.

whilst i was at it , i had a proper look at the fuses, the terminals to the suspension fuse and compressor fuse only have one pin/terminal, surely this cannot be right?

Definitely not, must have two terminals. The other pin must still be stuck in the holder, get that out and a good fuse in and you may have found your problem.

what the cheapest reader? can anyone recormmend one, I dont mind using pc software and a cable ,ive previously used opcom/vagcom

will one of the cheaper foxwells do the trick
