Hi All,
I have recently purchased a 2010 X5 35D. I was hoping to get some advice:
1. The car has staggered wheels with 325 tyres on back and 285 on the front – these changes were done by the main dealer some I assume all is ok – however the tyres fitted are not run flats ? – do I need to change them to RFT ?
2. What are the best RFTs to fit (price/quality etc…) ?
3. Can I fit smaller tyres which I assume would be cheaper ? – I’m not sure how to find the rim size ??
Grateful for any help/advice……

Tyres
Re: Tyres
hi they are usually 325/30/21 rears , 285/35/21 fronts , BMW recommend that you stick to runflats as usually they dont supply a spare wheel , the wheels are also that big they are better being changed at a tyre dealers so that you can drive to them on the runflats .
You could always buy some 20" wheels and tyres which are 315/35/20 rears , 275/40/20 fronts or some 19" 285/45/19 rears , 255/50/19 fronts .
Tyres are quite expensive for the 21" about £1500 a set Dunlop runflats , or Pirelli there arent that many to choose from , 20" about 1k a set runflats , Dunlop , Pirelli , Continental , Bridgestone etc premium brands , Vredestein , Falken etc middle brands then ditch finders which can be up to 70mm different to BMW star marked tyres .19" about £800 lots to choose from !
If you look on alloywheelsdirect.net , type in make , model , size they will have a list of BMW wheels with all wheel sizes and offsets , if you have a Se version you need arch extension kits to run the wheels legally .
Regarding altering tyre sizes on the wheels you have , again it is not recommended as stretched tyres are now a mot failure also the cars are quite easily damaged with miss matched tyres and various heights as they wind the diffs up which damages other components .
Pm me if you need any more advise !
regards
