BMW X5 40d // Fault code: 49A6

When I ran diagnostics with Carly I got fault 49A6 - LIN bus communication. From my research its most likely faulty Glow plug controller which is a bit of a job to do, but doable.

Anyone knows what would be the visible symptoms of this issue? Anyone else had this fault? There are no other errors around glow plugs etc.

If the glow plug relay is faulty, you will get a read out on diagnostics that all 6 glow plugs have a fault, the symptoms are hard to start or wont start at all....

As you say bit of a pain to do...did mine and the time consuming part is removing the intake manifold, so make sure you purchase a new gasket set first and some spare nuts for the bottom row as they are not captive like the top row and you will loss one or two if you dont have a strong magnetic socket.

Not sure how you went with the glow plug controller replacement but my exact code the dealer said no problem with controller or wiring.
Seems a problem with ECU they say.
Not sure what the next step is now.

It comes back as an error code between the ECU and Glowplug Controller.

Changed the glow plug controller and never
Looked back. Common fault. But it may be wiring if you not so lucky.
