Hello all,
I have a bit of a predicament and am a bit out my depth so was hoping that I could get some advice and experience from you guys.
I bought a 2007 e70 recently and it came with some terrible Accelera tyres in the front and had Contisport 5 on the rear. I hate Acceleras so i decided to out some new all weathers on the front and then would put the rears on when I had some more money next month. I did this with a view to putting all weathers all round. I ended up with the Quadtrac 5 after lots of research.
So my current setup is:
Fronts 255/50/19 Vredstein Quadtrac 5
Rear 285/45/19 Contisport 5
I have now discovered Vredstein don't make them in a 285/45/19! I thought I checked this, but obviously not.
I therefore don't know what to do next:
A) am I able to put the Quadtrac 5 255/50/19 on the back too? I think the rears are 10J and the fronts 9J so don't know if this works.
B) depending on above and if not possible, I either: 1) source two new rear alloys that are 9J or 2) put cross-climates (or alternative) all round.
Got myself in a pickle here so would really appreciate help with what the possibilities are, given I shelled out some money already.
Thank you very much,
James

Click here then scroll down. It says that 255 is the narrowest tyre that should be fitted on a 10" rim. You should be OK.

Re: All weather tyres for staggered setup
I find that chart interesting, i have it as a reference point myself.
Having referenced it and spoken with tyre professionals, literally later today I'm picking up some refurbished Type 259 staggered rims and having 285 40 20 winter rubber fitted.
285 on an 11" rim is "approved" so I'm perfectly comfortable with the idea, and i've written before here that BMW use this set up of 285s all round on the F15/16 M spec cars albeit the rear rims are 10.5". These are * Pirelli winters which are not runflat.
Notably this chart suggests that 315 rears on 11" rims are to wide?? The more i read and learn I am ever more distrustful of the must be runflat tyres etc mantra BMW put out.

Re: All weather tyres for staggered setup
Thank you very much Stuart, I am over in the US on the West Coast this week, so this is a good start to the day for me
Will there be any negative effects of going to 255s on the rear?

Re: All weather tyres for staggered setup
Personally, I can't answer that because I've never had a car with staggered wheel sizes. I can't see why there would be any negatives, though.Churchfield wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2019 3:54 pmWill there be any negative effects of going to 255s on the rear?

Re: All weather tyres for staggered setup
For the E71 X6 BMW offer a square winter wheel set which are 9" all round and use 255 50 19 tyres. Its reasonable to assume the E70 is no different. I wouldnt personally have any qualms about using a 255 tyre on a 10"rim
