I respect your decision but I don't think I could have done it. Not for a French car anyway.

Is it a spanker you have bought or second hand?

No unfortunately not new but fortunately only £9k. Bought from a dealer her indoors used to work for and she knows the previous (1) owner, is a driver at that garage. :D
Got all the extras, apart from engine size it's as spec'd as the "IS"

What will it be worth in say 3 years? and what would your E53 been worth in three years... Its something I find hard to get my head around, sell the car and get something cheaper to run - example that the new car will be worth £4500 in three years and the E53 probably would be around that mark too... meaning you have actually lost £2k in swapping vehicles - £2k is a lot of extra fuel.

Thats what I sold to my missus when she told me I should get something cheaper to run anyway

Oh in 3 years it'll worth sod all as she does 25k a year, but hopefully she'll get another new/ish or even a company car and i'll get the cast offs.
50-60 mpg significantly more than 18 being a major part of the decision.

Brave man, but I certainly could not have done that either. I thought long and hard about ditching the X5 after the gearbox failure and replacing it with a Skoda Superb Estate (had 3 Octavias before which were never any trouble). In the end I just could not find anything that came close to what the X offered so I bit the ammunition store (needed to be a lot more than a single bullet) and went and bought a new X6. Going back to a 50mpg car wold have been the sensible option, but I've been spoiled by having had the X and would have always been looking at others and wondering.

I think you will be back........ :D

Feel almost embarassed highlighting this but the aforemetioimned 1988 title was performed by "Yazz" or to be pedantic "Yazz & the Plastic Population" ;)

Yazoo were Alison Moyet & Vince Clark, (the later formerly of early Depeche Mode).

Yes, I know...........I am a sad 80's throwback

I would find it very very hard to sell the X as it would be to hard to find another car that would even come close to the quality of the X! 8-)
