DRLs

I'm contemplating an upgrade of the pretty ineffective factory set up.

This would be something like these Philips items on eBay 183742334720 What I dont know off hand is how they would integrate into the cars loom. My car has cornering lights too so I don't want to compromise them or anything original, just have bright visible daytime lights.

Anyone already done this?

Not yet.

On paper they will fit nicely above the fog lamps at the top of the decor panel (below on facelift models). I saw some Google images with a similar set up which looked good, but the fog light trims were blacked out which improved the look a lot. I'm having that done next week before I commit to buying the DRLs.

Right, well, decor panel trims now removed complete with the fog light surrounds. The TIS instructions for removing just the lamp surround is amusing, lost in translation perhaps. I don't think they'd ever come off as suggested. Removing the whole trim and pushing the fog trims tabs forward is mucn easier.

Anyway, there is plenty of room for the Phillips lamps i had identified and i think they would look good. However, having looked at routes to bring the wiring up, while there is plenty of scope for that, I've now looked at pick up wiring points to connect into the loom and I can't see any external wiring at all. Removing the bulb access point is easy enough but so little room even if the sidelight wiring is in there and accessible. Sadly i think thats an abandoned idea now

Apologies to the OP in advance, because I'm going to post this anyway...............

I'm not a lover of DRLs at the best of times - especially the ones that are so bright they "mask" the front indicators until the car is just a few feet away. But aftermarket/afterthought ones are just tragic.

.............Which reminds me. I must get 'round to finding-out if the angel-eyes on my F25 can be coded off.

Each to their own opinion. I'm all about being safe, which includes being seen.

Had the wiring not been an issue the lamps would have been far from the indicators

You can get them coded out....but you'll have to get them coded back in every MOT time its been law since from 2009 for all vehicles, unless you buy a new car every three years before its first MOT is due that is....

According to my interpretation of this page, DRLs are only testable on vehicles first used from 01 03 2018.

Interesting, my old 2009 1 series 335i failed in 2014 due to one of the led drl red bands not working on the rear one side....

Correct i looked on the mot computer in the garage this morning.
