Anyone had a play with an X7 yet?
Anyone had a play with an X7 yet?
Having my X6 heater recall done today and the dealer has a 3.0D MSport X7 in the showroom. No brochures, prices or anything else, just the vehicle itself. They haven’t even been allocated any for ordering as yet.
I have to say it looks much better in the flesh than in pictures. Dealer WiFi won’t let me upload pics but I’ll put some up once home again
No doubt the used price will fall off a cliff in the first two years, and the £90k list price for this 30d is way too steep for me, but after that they’ll be somewhat more affordable. I think I could get my F46 Gran Tourer inside it!

Not a lot of rear legroom....
And it is one ugly car this coming from someone who drives an X6

The X6 is handsome, and no the X7 isn’t but it’s much better than the Audi or Merc equivalent - IMHO of course

Those grills are truly hideous. Paint it all matt black and put on the flim set of Mad Max 12, or whatever they're up too.
Re: Anyone had a play with an X7 yet?
I assume the reference to N57 engine on the fuel, energy & emissions sheet is a typo. Surely it's got the B57?
And that grille..................... What were the design team thinking? It's absolutely hideous.

It certainly should be a B57 lump in there!! The Sales guys didn’t seem to know a lot about the car - as is pretty much normal unless you’re a Forum Member
More and more BMW models are having these larger grilles and I agree, they don’t do it any favours at all. We changed our F46 ones to all black to be blend them in a bit. Our American, Chinese and Middle Eastern friends like these big brash grilles apparently! No accounting for taste it seems. Bring back Chris Bangle as the stylist! Can’t we have an EU (or UK) version with better styling at the front?
I also saw that there are no V8 petrol models for the UK. The most powerful version will be the quad-turbo (yes that is four hairdryers!) M50d.
It won’t ever end up in my ownership as they have all-round air suspension and although I’m fine with that, other members of the family get very car sick with air suspension which is why none of our BMWs have it fitted.

Comedy grills, air suspension???
Its all academic really, never having the luxury of circa £100k to throw into a massively depreciating asset is not something i need concern myself with.
I do know that even if i had the funds I wouldn't be buying that. It's too big, brash and ugly.

I'm not sure I particularly like the look of many/any of BMW's latest offerings. I think if I was in the market for a '19 or '20 model car I'd have to defect to the dark side. As things stand, if I ever do replace my F25 it would have to be with a '17 MY F25 - and that will likely be the last car I buy in this lifetime.sapphireblack wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2019 6:42 amI do know that even if i had the funds I wouldn't be buying that. Re: Anyone had a play with an X7 yet?
I remember thinking when I bought my X6 that it could easily turn into my last vehicle purchase. It's not a youngster (2009+1owner) but has only 30k miles on it, has all the toys and more I'd ever spec if buying a new car, and has already lost its big money. Based on my long term affair with my E53, 10 years, if i duplicated that I don't think I'd want to necessarily be driving in my late 70's. It's distinctly possible I may not even live that long.StuBeeDoo wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2019 7:11 amI'm not sure I particularly like the look of many/any of BMW's latest offerings. In the meantime I still dabble with 'upgrades & enhancements' to the car knowing it's dead funds but it makes me happy and the car unique

Re: Anyone had a play with an X7 yet?
Again, pretty-much like myself. I bought the F25 as a retirement present to myself, with the intention of it (fingers crossed) lasting until I give-up driving at 80 - if I last that long. The purchase was funded by a pension lump-sum that was burning a hole in my pocket. The only time I'm likely to have that kind of disposable funds again is when my mother departs this mortal coil. She's still going strong, with no major health issues, and as she had me young she could still be with us when I'm 80!sapphireblack wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2019 7:30 amI don't think I'd want to necessarily be driving in my late 70's. I've already inherited all there was to have. Life has a way of balancing with highs and lows so what I have is all I will ever have. Life is comfortable, no complaints but £100k on a car is/was never for me

Re: Anyone had a play with an X7 yet?
Back on the subject of the car, looking at the interior again the seat quilting is reminiscent of pimpmobiles of a few decades back. Paint one in gold metallic, add some cow horns on the 'hood', job done
Re: Anyone had a play with an X7 yet?
From some angles the X6 is quite nice, especially the rear but the grilles on the X7 are way too big. And no proper 'M'?. No thanks.
